Join our weekly Japanese Conversation Club to practice speaking Japanese in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Learn through real conversations, discover Japanese culture, and connect with a global community.
Learning Japanese becomes much more rewarding when you use it in real conversations. Our Japanese Conversation Club gives you the opportunity to practice speaking in a friendly online environment alongside learners and fluent speakers who share your passion for the language.
Each week, participants discuss a different topic in Japanese through relaxed small-group conversations. Topics may include travel, food, culture, daily life, hobbies, anime, movies, technology, current experiences, and much more. Every session offers a new opportunity to improve your speaking confidence while learning from others.
This conversation club is ideal for learners who already have a basic understanding of Japanese and can participate in simple conversations. Intermediate and advanced learners will benefit the most, but beginners are always welcome to join as listeners, observe the discussions, and become familiar with how the meetings work.
Our focus isn’t on memorizing grammar or following a textbook. Instead, we encourage practical communication in a supportive atmosphere where making mistakes is a natural part of learning. Every conversation helps you become more comfortable expressing yourself in Japanese.
To help the meeting run smoothly, we kindly ask everyone to arrive on time. Since participants are organized into conversation groups at the beginning of each session, late arrivals—especially first-time attendees—may not be able to join after the event has started.
Most importantly, relax, participate, and enjoy the experience. Every conversation is another step toward becoming a more confident Japanese speaker.
一緒に日本語を話しましょう! (Let’s speak Japanese together!)
My name is Sara! I am a musician that speaks both Japanese and English.
I love sharing languages.
I’ve enjoyed hosting these free events for Japanese learners.

Since this is a volunteer group event.
There may be a wide range of Japanese levels in the breakout rooms, but I believe all of us can learn from each other!
A little preparation can make every conversation more enjoyable and productive. Here are a few suggestions to help you get the most from each meeting.
🌸 Review Useful Vocabulary
Spend a few minutes reviewing words and expressions related to the week’s discussion topic. Even a small amount of preparation can help you speak more confidently.
🗣️ Speak as Much Japanese as You Can
Don’t worry about speaking perfectly. Use the Japanese you already know, experiment with new expressions, and learn from each conversation.
📝 Keep a Notebook Nearby
Write down unfamiliar words, useful phrases, or interesting expressions you hear during the meeting so you can review them afterwards.
❓ Ask Questions
If you don’t understand something, don’t hesitate to ask. Language learning is a shared experience, and everyone benefits by helping one another.
🎧 Listen Carefully
Pay attention to different speaking styles, vocabulary, and pronunciation. Listening is just as important as speaking when building fluency.
😊 Enjoy the Experience
Language learning should be enjoyable. Relax, be yourself, meet new people, and celebrate the progress you make with every conversation.
To create a welcoming environment for everyone, we ask participants to follow a few simple guidelines.
✅ Arrive a few minutes before the meeting begins.
✅ Be respectful and give everyone an opportunity to speak.
✅ Encourage fellow learners and don’t be afraid to make mistakes yourself.
✅ Keep conversations friendly, positive, and inclusive.
❎ Please avoid discussing sensitive topics such as politics, religion, or ongoing conflicts. Repeatedly bringing up these subjects may result in being removed from the meeting.
Every meeting is different, keeping conversations fresh, engaging, and enjoyable. Rather than following a fixed curriculum, we explore a variety of everyday topics that encourage natural communication in Japanese.
Some examples include:
Every session is unique, and participants are welcome to introduce new conversation topics that everyone can enjoy.

No. Our conversations focus on speaking and listening. While knowing Japanese writing can certainly help your learning journey, it’s not required to participate in the conversation club.
Absolutely. The goal is to communicate and keep the conversation flowing. If you forget a word in Japanese, it’s perfectly fine to ask for help or briefly use English while you continue learning.
Sometimes—but not always. While anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture are popular topics, our conversations also cover travel, food, traditions, daily life, hobbies, technology, current experiences, and many other everyday subjects.
Of course. Many first-time participants prefer to observe before joining the discussion. Listening to others is a great way to become familiar with the pace of the conversation and build confidence before speaking.
